Spain wins the 39th Potter Cup
The IC of Spain has won the 39th Potter Cup, XVIII Campionat Internacional de Catalunya de Veterans, IX Gran Premi Generalitat de Catalunya, which was hosted once again at the RC Polo of Barcelona and organized by the IC of Spain and the Catalan Tennis Federation during the weekend of 27 - 29 May 2011.
The Spanish team beat defending champions IC Italy decisively in the final. David De Miguel put Spain ahead, beating Giovanni Lelli Mami 6-0 6-2. Enrico Casadei briefly brought the visitors level, with a 6-0 6-1 win over Miquel Puigdevall. Carlos Costa-Bou then beat Massimiliano Sirchio 6-2 6-1, and Francisco Garcia clinched the tie with a 6-2 7-6(5) win over Edoardo Mazza. Eduard Osta ensured a 4-1 overall scoreline by beating Nando Cavalleri 6-4 6-2 in the last match.
The IC Spain began its campaign by beating IC Great Britain 5-0 in the first round, and survived a thrilling semi final against IC France, edging to a 4-3 win. Once again the players demonstrated a high standard of play in a competition that was played in festive spirits throughout, illustrating once more how sport can extend friendship across the borders.
